Temporary SEARCH Enhancement Tips
Here are some tips to help enhance the current search function on this version of VBulletin, as a temporary measure:

To search by user:
1. Get the user's ID number (hover over their name, their trader rating number, etc. The number you want will be shown in the status bar at the bottom of the browser somewhere. IE. My user number is 2707).
2. In the search box, type userid:<number>. ie. to search my posts, you would type userid:2707
3. If you want to search something specific in addition to just my username, you can enter it in the search box as well. For instance, to find every time I've said "turbo" type userid:2707 turbo
To search within a specific forum:
1. Get the forum id number. (Hover over the forum, and look for the number in the status bar as above)
2. In the search box, type forumid:<number>.
3. As above, you then specify the stuff you want to find in the posts. ie. forumid:45 fuel injectors
*** NOTE *** This is all temporary -- the search tool will integrate all this into the regular vBulletin search form, it just isn't ready at the moment. But, for those of you who are willing to do the work, you can be rewarded with good search results

*** FURTHER NOTE *** The field searching capability can be stacked how ever you feel will get the results you need. For example: forumid: 45 userid:46161 title:turbo wastegate will search in the Parts Classifieds forum, for posts by 05 GSXR 1XXX, with the word turbo in the title, and the word wastegate in the post. You can get as detailed as you need to
The following fields are available:--- title
--- body (default - if you don't specify which field, it is assumed to be the body)
--- userid
--- postid
--- forumid
--- threadid

If you want to get the word out a bit better, might think about duplicating this as a regular post to be bumped every now and again with the hope it will get read more. Sometimes it seems that the least read posts are the stickys! :suicide:
I think I'll put a link to this thread in my sig for others to see.
