Default Search used to be so good...

and now it barely works. I used to be able to search for threads I posted on, to keep track of what is going on. Now, no results. Been like that for at least 2 months.

What's up? I wouldn't think that a decent search is too costly.

Love the site in general.

There are at least a half dozen posts about this on the first page alone. Not to mention a sticky with a blinking title in gigantic font.

it costs a lot more than you think to run a board, especially one this size. No worries to the people who run this site and maintain it, take your time.

Well, first I did a search on "search upgrades", and when it returned nothing I just posted a quick email.

Instead of a sticky, why not add your search tool status to the box that pops up when you click 'search'? That way you would deliver the message right when people tried to use it? That would be a 'push' model for the information you want to get out, which is almost always more effective, rather than a sticky which is part of a user 'pull' model for information.

Regards,

Jim

I am in no way trying to bash ls1tech, but I highly doubt cost is an issue here. Have you looked at the sponsor list?

i was thinking the same thing myself. plus the traffic that goes through this site; right now there are over 2000 people on this site. i could be entirely wrong though.

i remember when search worked awesome also, unfortunately it **** the bed about 6 months ago and hasnt been the same since. i cant even search user names.

one thing we do have remember though, this site is free. so you really cant bitch "too" much when something goes wrong because its not costing you money when it isnt working.

hope the mods will get this going soon.

Instead of posting a question, why not read the FLASHING sticky thread that goes into great detail about the problem. The sticky clearly says READ THIS BEFORE POSTING ANY THREADS.

I mean come on, you looked right over a flashing sticky to make this thread.

upon closer inspection of the sticky i found you were right BLK02TA money is in no way involved. ive been gone for awhile and just jumped back on the board two days ago, so thats my excuse for not reading the sticky.

so for those who missed it:

word of caution,

don't ask about the Search function. it's been fucked for as long as i can remember. asking about it only brings the mods to flame you, and then they delete your thread.

just keep asking the same questions, that are asked every month. eventually, it'll get fixed.

They don't flash on my computer at workor at home. And I am not in the habit of looking at the Stickies, although I will try to develop one.

Did you even consider that my suggestion had any merit, or are you too stuck on flaming me to have any kind of an open mind?

Regards,

Jim

Yes, your suggestion has merit. That doesn't negate the fact that you are blind. You probably could have even scrolled down in this forum and saw that a dozen other similar threads had already been started regarding the search feature. Each of those tell you to read the sticky too.

People are just too quick to complain nowadays, nobody takes the time to show any gratitude. Ever made a post in this forum thanking someone when things are going smoothly?

Love the site in general.
Not sure how much more complementary I can get on a family site!

And I spread the message near and far, throughout the car sites I visit.

That's MUCH appreciated. Frustrating as it is to have these issues, they're par for the course as sites of our size grow. We're not unique, that's for sure.
