you could put a captcha box before you can post a reply, but who the hell would want to deal with that anyways.

+1 on clicking on them and reporting.

I agree on the "dont click them" idea. During the wee hours of the morning spam pops up all over. That stuff is gone in under 5min becuase of the staff we have.

My approach to them is....look around, make sure no one sees me, click them, have a nice "LOL!" and keep looking having a good time at LS1TECH...!

For every honest mod that comes up with a way to block spammers, there are ten programmers developing new ways for their bots to get around it. There isn't a solution other than to have active mods that stay on top of it. I think this board does a great job in that area.

Well, if actual humans are coming here and posting the spam, there is next to nothing that can be done about, period.

If they are bots, and most of them are, about the only thing we could do is beef up the captcha security during regestration and make it a little more difficult for a bot to enter. The image verification is a little lacking, but if we ever update to the newest vbulletin, the newest captcha modules are included.

Best thing to do is just ignore them. like everyone else said. Also, to be honest, I'm suprised you would even post this, as if we aren't doing our best to keep the **** out of the forums. Cut us some slack if you possibly could.

It's not nearly as much of a pain in the *** to us as it is to the mods.

I really don't think we should be complaining, just don't click them *****..

Being a newbie on this board, I don't agree with limiling the ability of newbies posting, since a lot of them find these forums to ask questions and it would prevent them from doing so. You could always have a section, that would be the only place newbies could post, that way it would be easier to police. You could always force the newbies to supply an open valid email address, so the other forum members could message them about their displeasure and make sure its from a real ISP, not some hot mail account.

Not to mention, most new members don't need to be starting threads until they have a few posts anyway right?
How would they introduce themselves?

Look, the bottom line is that we are doing our best. Don't click on them for the whole 2-3 minutes that they are up and you are fine. If you fear your job, don't browse the site at work. That's realistically all I can say.

Lol. Yeah really.

Also, they only ever post in General LSX... the bot searches the board for the words "general" or "spam" and finds that forum to post in.

I gotta give kudos to you Mods/Admins on this one. Because until I just read this, I never knew there were any **** threads being created, and I've been here for a couple years now. So this is all news to me.

To the OP, I'm going to have to agree with what the majority has already suggested. If it looks fishy, don't open the thread. You can always hover your mouse over the thread title to read a preview of what's being talked about in the thread. Either that or just don't surf the site at work. Seems like a no brainier to me.

did you wake up on the third and say "hey, I'll start a totally uncalled for thread on tech today, just to bitch at the admins"?

Just curious.

This thread should have been done with a long time ago.
The only thing I can think of that would help, but not limit a newbies posting ability would be to force new members to post an introduction before they can post in the regular forums. Personally the mods and long time member do a great job of preventing this **** so leave it at that.

as much as i hate the spam on these boards I have to give to the mods, they are very good about quickly removing it, esp. if its reported. its never there long. half the time i type my IBTL for the hell of it, then refresh, and its gone.
