Default tired of ****/SPAM threads

I love ls1tech, but hate the ****/spam threads. This is especially troublesome given many members surf at WORK. Why not impose a 50 post minimum before you can either (1)start a thread or (2) post pictures.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against ****, just would rather it not pop up at work.

You and me both hate 'em, but I think it'd be stupid to make a rule requiring 50 posts to start a thread.

They're pretty easy to spot. JUST DON'T CLICK THE THREAD. Simple as that. We'll get them. Most of them are gone within 5-10 minutes.

It's a problem that all forums deal with, not just LS1tech. Everybody thinks they've got a fool-proof answer for them, but all solutions put somebody out in some way, shape, or form. As a board owner myself, I feel for the admins here. Please try to be somewhat understanding.

Thanks! It definitely gets tough as I know Andrew (Camaroholic), Brian (Brains), and Adrian try all sorts of things to keep the Spammers out. It is much more complex than just banning an entire IP/proxy, etc.

I am definately understanding, and don't BLAME the admins. I was just wondering on why we don't just require a few posts in order to start a new thread or post pictures. It wouldn't prevent it entirely, but it would definately give them a hurdle to jump over.

Not to mention, most new members don't need to be starting threads until they have a few posts anyway right? Anyhow, I am sure you guys have put more thought into this than I have. So I will ignore them and report them when i stumble across them.

I hate the whole pop up deals and the bs sponsors they have on tech now. I droped my sponsorship because of it. Internet brands has totaly allowed bs one here now. This site is not the same as it was when John and Tony had control of it.

Done.

What's your suggestion now since tons of spammers and bots attack
the site all the time?

For the most part, no one ever sees the spam since our team is
extremely quick to ban spammers and remove their BS from our
forums.

Yep...and my email from LS1tech is forwarded directly to my blackberry
so I see it immediately. There's not much else you can ask IMO from
a bunch of guys who dedicate their free time to do this...and I do mean
free.

It is impossible to thwart spammers. Any type of security you might try and create will end up alienating honest new visitors instead of repel spammers. We'd prefer to keep first time visitors happy, and deal with spam on an individual basis.

Don't click on the spam threads, simple as that. They are easy to spot 99% of the time.

only way ive been able to keep it down ona couple small boards i look over is lock the registration down , they can try and register , but if i dont click the ok button , they never get beyond registration

i will admit its a pain even on a small board , so i could only imagine on a larger national board like here it would be a billion times worse

As I know personal smaller boards that do the same, Tech is definitely a lot harder when we are still at 130,000 members and counting.

Pop up deals? What? I have yet to see such a thing here.
