For sale or trade: 1962 Mercury Meteor, 26,000 miles!! I have a 1962 mercury meteor, 2 door, with a 289 and a 2 speed "merc-o-matic" tranny. the car has 26,xxx original miles, although the motor is not original, I do not know why the motor was changed with such low mileage, so don't ask, this is the way I got it and the vin comes back to a 260, so either they wanted more power, or they popped the o.e. motor, there is a great 289 2bbl with the generator and p.s. pump located under the hood now. the tranny runs great, it sticks a little when cold, but shifts great once warm, the motor could stand the 2bbl rebuilt, or ditch it and get a 4bbl! the car needs repainted, the original paint is bubbling up and cracking off and everywhere this happens, surface rust starts, this is the cars worst problem. all the chrome is there, all the pieces are there and the car is complete, I have duplicates of a lot of parts just in case,(dash w/guages, trim, emblems, etc, there is a trunkload and then some...) the car was inspected last year, but will need an exhaust to pass this year, there are holes in the pipe now. this is a great rare car, I hate to get rid of it but it will rust away before I have the money to take care of it, and I don't have anywhere inside to store it. there were only about 3500 meteors built in 62(2 door's) and few had the S33 sport package this car has.
I would like to get $5000 o.b.o., but I would be willing to trade for a truck, just let me know what you have.
the title is clear and anybody located around Martinsburg, WV 25401, is welcome to come look at the car. It has new tires, brakes, battery, etc., so I would trust it to drive any distance, but this car has a single cylinder master resevoir, with manual drum brakes, so I don't recommend highway travel. I have a direct bolt-in dual resevoir m.c. that goes with the car. just in case your wondering, it's longer than a ford excursion.
