Road Trip Advice I am planning a trip in my SS (see sig) from Louisiana to San Jose, CA. Along the way my fiance and I will be stopping at few tourist attractions, Grand Canyon, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas to name a few.
I am from Nebraska so I have no problems driving in the snow, but I'd prefer to stick to roads that are not prone to snow or ice. I am not dead set to driving my SS, but I'd like to (new engine and just coming back from 15 months in Iraq). I also have a Zr2 Blazer I could drive pending what your suggestions hold.
How is I-40 during Jan & Feb? Is there much snow or chances of snow along that route? Should I stick to I-10 to stay safe?
Does anyone have any tips of routes to take or scenic routes to take?

also check all hoses make sure u don't have any rips or anything that can bust on you while driving....before i drove my car from CA to TX i changed all the fluids from coolant to diff oil. and all the hoses that looked worn out..i would take the I-10 if i was going back to cali..

I will definately change all my fluids - it's been sitting idle since July 2007.
I'll just need to get the car tuned, change the brake pads, and convince my fiance that she will enjoy the ride. She does not like my seat belts and calls them her 'car sear' since I have the sparco race seat and 4 point seat belt. It's funny when she drops something and she can't reach to pick it up. When she reaches for it, sometimes I'll downshift to get whatever she dropped to slide back to her
. She yells when I do it, but I tell her I am just trying to help her out

dude i have driven from FL to CA 2 times, once in late January and once in June. I didnt see any ice or snow when i went in January, i stuck with the I-10. I went to the Grand Canyon a couple weeks ago as well as Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam (if you go to Vegas you might as well go to Hoover). You can only go to the Southern Rim at the Grand Canyon which is very nice but most tourist go to see the North Rim, but its closed in the winter time, and when i went there was snow and ice, just to let ya know. OH and just so you know you can rent a really nice room at Nellis AFB which is only an hour from Vegas and Hoover Dam and it was only $35 a night. Have a good time, and make sure you get a good alignment, check your fluids and check your tire pressure every gas stop since your elevation changes. It'll be a great time. if you want to kill more tome go to the grand canyon then shoot North to the southern tip of Utah and then down to Las Vegas, that is a beautiful scenic route.
