Default Failed CA Smog...now what? Need advice asap!

Failed smog a couple of days ago. There was too much unburned fuel going through the exhaust they said. The mods I have are in my sig and I had the car tuned 4 years ago after putting in the cam by Mike Morgan @ Morgan Motorsports (I know, I know) who was reputable at the time. The smog place want to charge me $80 to do a gas analysis to determine the exact problem. I don't want to spend another $500 getting the car tuned again, but is that what you guys think I need to do? Could this be as simple as a tuning issue or could it be a real problem like an o2 sensor? Thanks!

But if you've passed before with that setup then maybe someone can help you out. I wouldn't pay the 80 bucks for the fact that it can be something simple that you don't need a test for.

That cam should pass, make sure you changed your oil,and you get the car to 195 degrees and make sure the exhaust is fully up to temp.Again that cam should pass without a problem.

Even with a pretty good tune, it may be hard to pass with LTs since the cats are pushed back much farther. Make sure they test it when your cats are nice and hot, maybe set an appointment so you can get in faster. You said unburned fuel, so HCs were high? Can you post your test results.

I'm located in Hesperia, CA (off of I-15 30 min north of Rancho Cucamonga).
I drove it hard before getting to the shop, passed the visual, but then failed the HC (ppm) portion. At 15 mph the max allowable HC was 51 and the car put out 80. At 25 mph the max was 35 and the car put out 36. I think I'm going to have CMS retune the car and then try to smog again??? I simply need to get this thing smogged

elky489: That's what I thought and that is why I went with this cam.
01SuperSport: This is the 1st time around for the car to be smogged. PM me details if you could with the ppl you know that might be ablt to "fix" my problem. Thank you.

That could have been it. I have not changed it in 6 months granted the car hasn't seen even 1,000 miles of driving in those 6 months. So, change the oil, get it hot and try to smog it again? It was just so far off from meeting the max HC at 15 mph I would hate to waste another $40 to smog and have it fail again. That's why I was thinking I may need to have it tuned again.

Oil will play a big part in your hc,espically if your pcv system isnt upto snuff, and you did alot of town driving and start and stop, you will have a ton of un burned fuel in the oil.
