Because when the two opponents are on a similar skill-level, weight does matter.
Actually it does. However, don't take my word for it. I would invite you to go to any full contact martial-arts dojo and try out your theory about size...

Size and strength matter. It doesn't make a difference how you look at it.. It's a factor that has to be taken into consideration.
Lets take organized fighting completely out of the picture.
So you've got a 6' 7" - 280lb guy in great athletic shape (lets say a football player) vs. a 5' 10" 165 - awesome shape boxer/jiu jitsu artist
Are you a betting man? I would always take the larger guy in MOST scenarios.

Why would you point me in the direction of the undisputed best heavyweight fighter in the ******* world vs. that scrub *** ************. I'm actually interested to see Fedor vs. Arlovski.
Extreme differences in size can play a big part. I don't see how that's even deniable. Specifically when you are talking about non-fighters.

LOL my god look what i sarted! I will add this. have you noticed that usually the really big (steroid freaks) usually ( in the UFC anyway, totally addicted), lose the fight? thats because those steroids actually slow a guy down. If you have all that mass it will slow you down. If a guy is really strong with out any cardio he will (depending on the length of the fight of course, and endurance of opponent) usually lose the fight. Thats why i like the UFC (WEC etc) there are so many variables and anyone (winning at the moment or not) can get caught with a good hook and be KO'ed

my 02 cents is that Lesner will not hold the belt for too long. I really think it is just a matter of time before there is a guy 220 to 250 lbs that has alot more Mixed Martial Arts education that him (plus he really doesnt have much exposure to the arts). its just a matter of time. i honestly think with Frank Mir he can take him out like he has done before.
