Default Would you consider "speed" relative?

I was just wondering do you guys think there is a standard for speed or is it all relative?

It's relative. I got used to driving faster and faster, because speeding didn't actually feel like speeding until I got my one and only ticket. It's sorta like when you get in the zone, but more mild. After throwing the Nitto DR's on my car hooked like crazy and it feels fast off the line, but I knew in the back of my head that it really wasn't and I was just used to having a slow car. I consider a "fast" car one that hits 12s in the quarter or less, a "decent" car one in the 13s to 14s, and "meh" as anything higher (yes that includes my car). Some people only think Top Fuel cars are fast.

Me? No. It would go under "decent". "Fast" or "speed" is this:

When you compare it to a 130hp Hyundai Elantra, I'd call it fast.

Speed has to be relative because the term varies so much dependant on application

Is a nhra drag car "fast" compared to an X-43 unmanned scramjet that can do 7,000 mph?

I think that is another relative question. i drove a standard 4.6L F150 for eight years before i bought my trans am which is mostly stock right now. so i consider it to be fast. however, the guys here that do more serious modding would consider it slow. but, if you compare a stock LS1 to the majority of the cars on the road today, again i would say it's fast.

Exactly. I say that a stock LS1 F-body isn't fast, because I've driven faster stock cars...

That said, a stock C6 would be perfect for me and I probably wouldn't mod it at all. Not "fast", but "fast enough". And it's easy to maintain the right "speed".

Until people start driving Optima Blue-top space shuttles. Now THOSE are fast.

P.S. "mag-ma"

Exactly! When I compare speed I compare it to what the majority of the cars on the streets can do, because thats what I drive, a street car.

I think its relative but to a certain point, to me a 11sec car is fast, cuz on the road not much can touch it.

well i think you asked the wrong question in your OP. the question should have been "is a stock LS1 fast compared to other stock engines" in which you have already answered it. once you get into 11 sec cars, you're not talking about too many stock engines.

Its relative... but whats funny to me is my 11sec car feels faster then my 10sec car, because how its setup.

The TA is SC'd 3spd th400, 3.73 gears tops out at 128... but runs a 10's.

The Camaro is TC'd 6spd 3.23 gears tops out way above anything i can reach... should run 11's.

Because to me 60-120 pull is SOOO much stronger in the camaro... its still pulling hard past 150. Just slower off the line.

Interesting question.

It's all relative. In every way you could ever imagine it... not just ground speed/maximum veloicty/rate of acceleration/etc. Every way. All relative. God I hate physics.

x2 Holy **** that thing's fast

on a side note I consider "quick" to be an off the line term and "fast" to be a top speed term

well thats not what I'm trying to figure out tho. I know every person has a differant standard to what they call fast but is they're any kind of universal standard.

Let me use this analogy, I would call a 400lb person fat. Would a group of sumo wreslters say that? no, but the fact remains that he is still fat. You get me?

It really is relative. I drive around a 144HP Kia Spectra as my daily driver. When I get behind a trans am, there is a huge difference. So I would say definately that its relative.

However 130 mph is 130 mph no matter how long it took you to get there. Yes I have done 130 in my spectra
