Default Tire Width and Height

Quick question, if I originally had a 245/45 R17 tire, but want to go with a 255, would the height change? Thanks

Yes. But ever so slightly. How wide is your rim?

Incorrect my man!

It does make it a smig taller but its almost not noticable.

Its about .4-.7" taller and wont notice it on the speedo.

You can have a 295/45 be wider than a 305/30.

yes it will, just slightly

your original size is 245/45, which means your sidewall is 45% of 245mm

sidewall-- 4.3 in ~ 110.2 mm
radius----12.8 in ~ 326.2 mm
diameter--25.7 in ~ 652.3 mm
circ.-----80.7 in ~ 2049.3 mm
revs/mile-785.0

so with 255/45 your side wall is 45% of 255mm

sidewall---4.5 in ~ 114.8 mm
radius----13.0 in ~ 330.6 mm
diameter--26.0 in ~ 661.3 mm
circ.-----81.8 in ~ 2077.5 mm
revs/mile-778.0

Alright, so just a little higher. Ok. For whatever reason, it looked taller than just .3", but I think it was all in my mind. Thanks everyone for your answers.

Nicely done Gil, most fail to realize that the second number is a percentage of the first, not a measurement.

Now, you're all assuming he keeps his tire pressure at the recommended value.

You **** *****.

While this specific question might not be relevant, what happens when you go from 255/40/17 to 315/40/17?...the difference becomes much more apparent.

it's a much bigger issue when you calculate everything that it entails going from 245-45 to 255-45; This small change at what you can call a mere .3 inches will make your ABS/Emergency Brake light go off if you're running 285/40 and larger. Just a heads up.
