I need everyones opinions on this one!
I have a 99 LS1, I need new heads. What do I go with???
Stock and have them portted, 5.3 (truck) heads, etc.......
My car is bone stock and plan to keep it that way(maybe). I wouldn't mind the extra power...
Pretty much what I'm trying to say is, what is best bang for the buck!!!
Thanks

My PRC 5.3s made good numbers, only mod to them other than how they come from Texas Speed is milling to get 11.5:1 compression.
If I were to do it over again id probably go with AFRs. I really like the Trick FLows but you need to run valve comver spacers and aftermarket roller rockers with em.
Im not sure of "the best" but All Pros are pretty damn expensive...

Hell stock 243's can flow enough to feed a 500hp motor, ported 241's are not bad either they flow in the same range as ported 243's.
5.3 heads have a small chamber and need to be ported to make any real power, they also need the intake valve to be enlarged as they are smaller than the stock 243 or 241 valve which inhibits flow.
You might as well toss a small cam in there while you have it apart and replace the timing chain with a LS2 chain. a 224/224 cam will pass smog with a good tune. A Z06 cam would give you a nice boost in power as well, LS6 intake, 243's or ported 241/853's with that cam should put you in the 350+ range at the wheels.

Patriot runs them through a CNC program for $600. There is also a place out here cant recall the name but they do hand porting for ~400. New valves are not really needed unless you are going to larger valves or replacing bent valves.

Best available for stock bore, Trick Flow 215's
Best Bang for buck, CNC'd 243's wth aftermarket valves. RPM, West Coat Cylinder Heads, TEA, and Texas Speed all have there own versions of these...

Hey Conrad, ported 241's do make good power, Lee (Slowpoke310) does hand porting right here.
I agree with SRJ the 243's can be picked up used for a low price and are the best "bang for the buck"
If I had to say the best I would say AFR's but you are looking at $2390 (we now carry them)
All Pro WCCH as well (we have them too)
Do you have a LS6 intake because that will net you some nice numbers if you don't.
What are you looking to get out of it? I put 400+ to the wheels with a cam only (ISKY 233/236) and stock heads in my 01

High flowing heads do no good on a car that is so close to stock fellas, he said he intends on keeping it mostly stock.
OP- I would stick with a set of stock 243's or mildly worked 241's. Also think about tossing a z06 cam in there, no fuss, no tune, stock idle, etc. Plus a lil bump in power for your trouble.

I always heard and saw AFR's 205's to be the best for stock CI LS1's with a Cam and exhaust they run 11's in the 1/4. Not sure about anything that has come out after the 205's.
