cash for clunkers

2001 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
Combined MPG: 19
Trade-in value: $2,700
Verdict: Can't crush it
As much as owners of the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 might love their car, they'd probably jump at the chance to get their hands on the government's $4,500. "Cash for clunkers" would be a good option for them, but the Z28 doesn't qualify.
Believe it or not, this muscle car's fuel economy is too good. It gets a combined city and highway fuel economy of 19 mpg, 1 mpg too high.
That's a major bummer for Z28 owners, since the car is worth considerably less than what it could have gotten from Uncle Sam.

Thats story was not cool, if we loved our cars why would we taker it in to get crushed? Thank god it is not on the list I would hate to see them get smashed, even the huge rimmed camaro's don't deserve that fate. Thank you LS1 for good fuel economy out of a muscle car.
Also I want to know where they got the idea that a 2001 camaro Z28 is worth less that $2500.

Ok by KBB standards at 200k miles the lowest value is
Fair: $2,500
Good: $3,275
Excellent: $3,725
So essentially at that point if you are only fair you are pretty much parting the car out and would make more than $2,500 for the car anyways.
Soo it is still worth a decent amount, oh well you would have to be an idiot to trade in your LS1 powered fbody for a little econo box car, might as well just buy a civic for daily driving.

my company makes the crap that they put in the engine to seize it before they crush it.
It sucks, you would think this program would pull apart body panels and other items but I guess not. They want to make sure these cars are not sold back out on auctions or given salvaged titles.
