Brown Goo In Oil Filler Tube 383 Stroker???
Any labs in SoCal that can test engine oil for contiments.
I have a 62 vette that has a 383 stroker motor. Don't
drive it much but it has a med brown gooy stuff in the
oil fill tupe. Like to get it tested anyone know of any labs.
It's diffently not water.

Usually that is where watery oil collects because there will be some amount of water that gets in your oil and it ends up there. I would just wipe it out and drive the vette for a while so the oil can get hot for a while and the water should evaporate out.
Just a thought, i might be wrong.

I thoght so too. Drove it 240 miles one way and again about the same on
a round trip to Jullian last Sunday. And it's still collecting the brown goo.
It runs and starts great and huals ***.
But sure would like to know what that stuff is for sure!!!!!.

This is only my second oil change in this new engine,
less then 2500 miles.
I used Shell Rotella 15-40 it has some of the highest zinc
rating and was recommended by Isky Cams. I also
added a pint of Comp Cam breakin lube. It's a solid
lifter can so wanted it to break in probably.

it's just water and oil mix from condesation in the tube.
is this the filler tube on the front of the intake style, or the later one on the valve cover? you said it had a 383 now?
i'm sure if you look at your pcv valve also, it will have some on it also.
got to love humidity.

that's pretty normal for the valley pan / filler tube. when the air in your hot engine cools down, it cools the air which releases its moisture. moisture + oil = brown sludge. once the engine gets hot again, the goo dissolves, boils off the water, and it's good to go again... rinse repeat.

Hey thanks alot, that puts my mine to ease.
I thought it maybe just condesation.
To ansewer your question, it is a 383. High nickel content 010 block, bored, balanced,
and blue printed. Bottom end Eagle crank, Scat full floating pin rods, 10:25.1 SLP pistons. World Products Sportman's p & p heads. Comp 546 lift solid lifter cam.
With Isky lifters (the engine builder BMS thinks the Isky lifters oil better then Comp)
Edlebrock manifold, 750 Holley, Mallory ingition, Doug Headeres, 4 speed, 373 gears.
Not dynoed yet but hoping for around 450hp.
The Edlebrock manifolds is their newer version of the RPM thats comes with a
retro oil fill tube in the front. For those that want to run the old style valve covers. That have no cap or provision for a PVC in them.
