Default Input on my Vette, Best way to fix my down shift problem. New Stall Maybe or Gears?

Hey all:

Well here is a quick run down.

I have a C-5 Vette fully built and stroked, full exhaust and had a new cam installed a few months back ( went bigger ). It has a fully built stage 5 trans with a Pro Torq 2,800 stall and 342 gears.

I have a dead spot from 35MPH to 50MPH. Under 35MPH and over 50MPH it comes unglued but between 35MPH to 50MPH its a dog.

I was thinking maybe a bigger stall like a Yank 3,400 or 373 Gears.

I am kind of lost here and dont want to waste money if it wont help.

Thanks

I'd get 373 gears, but as far as your stall goes, I would call up Yank and see what stall they recommend for your set up...

Something like that couldn't be fixed with tuning (tell the car what gear to down shift into at a certain speed and throttle)?

A bigger stall would help. Yank recommended me a 3600 stall with a similar setup tp yours. That would help but you can tune the tc clutch line pressure as well to help with lock-up as well as tune shift time and shift speeds. 3.73s would help to but I have 3.42s with a 3600 and I like it. Get the Yank first, if you want then add gears. Youre gonna get the tc anyway. Good luck.

the car doesnt seem to have a "dead spot" when i drive it, it has normal areas that it is out of it power like any other 4l60e with a relatively tight converter, if i change it any more it will downshift then shift right away because it will be at nearly redline when it downshifts... my suggestion is to a higher stall converter that way you will be in your powerband more often... this is the problem with the wide spaced gearing on the 4l60e it needs a good stall to be in it powerband at all times. i suggest a yank 3600 for the nitrous or na a even 4000

Thanks Ryne,

I was staring to really think it had to be the stall. All My cars have been manuals and this is the 2nd auto I have had.

I keep comparing it to my old 02 Camaro that was H/C/I with 342's also but I had a Yank 3,200 and it had really no dead spots. Plus the cam was way smaller in the Camro compared to my Vette. It was a 224/224 on a 114lsa.

So my next question is: Ryne PM me on what you can do for a Yank 3,600 set-up for Nitrous and installed. I will be looking to do this after x-mas.

Thanks
