Looks like fun. I'll have to run one of these events some day.
Like this, without the whole crashing thing:

its definitely a blast, but there is always some danger to it. there was a rx7 that got totaled that day on the last session. he was coming out of a corner pretty quick, somehow he lost it and went into a wall, luckily he was okay. he is a pretty good driver to and was turning impressive times.

NASA has a few different run groups, they have HPDE for thus who don't want to "race" and just want to be on track, they have 'Time Trials' for those who don't mind being on track with others and being in close quarters at speed (not racing), and they have race groups, like TTS and ST2/ST1, etc.
Speed Ventures is pure HPDE (high performance driving event) where you can get on track as a beginner (with instructor) or as an experienced track addict and just have fun. No racing, still the BS (that you find in racing), but lots of fun and lots of track time.
Here's a video from the weekend I'm talking about:
<embed type='application/x-shockwave-flash' src='http://vholdr.com/videoPlayer/embedPlayer.swf' allowfullscreen='true' allowscriptaccess='always' flashvars='height=281&width=500&plugins=yourlytics-1&yourlytics.callback=http://vholdr.com/callback.php&repeat=list&file=http://vholdr.com/xspf/node/38929/emb' height='281' width='500'></embed>
if that doesn't work here's the link: http://vholdr.com/video/vara-race

To the OP, great job! I saw your post on CF also, and as Oli and Howie mentioned, come out to some of the Corvette Challenge events. Lot's of great guys, drivers, and you can easily get some great pointers by some of the other more experienced drivers to help you get faster, or safer...or both!
