Default Quoted $400.00 for header install

I live in southern california and was wondering if $400 sounds right for a LT header install, and thats just for the headers, another 125-175 to have a merge put on the ory and installed. Plus the shop said they would have to to think about the install because it isnt smog legal even though the car would be registered in a different state by the date of install. Does the price sound right? I think it sounds a little expensive. If anyone knows of a good shop please let me know.

I paid less than that when I had my headers put on at CMS 2 years ago; I am sure you'd be better off going to a LSx shop all ways you can look at it.

^^^ You gotta remember there are people who don't know where *** from a hole in the ground when i comes to anything involving mechanics, as simple as they may seem to a good bit of the people on here.

Also doesn't the TSP Y just slip onto the I-pipe for the catback?

OP where are you located? My boy has a shop in Northridge he might be willing to work a good deal for a fellow tech member.

Im located on the north side of camp pendleton. And i know the y pipe just slides on but im buying a used y pipe from a member and it is the older style tsp ory so i was going to have a flowmaster merge welded in. It looks like im gonna be getting some help on the install from a fellow member so im not too concerned about it any more.

Thanks to all who sent me info and offers.

I vote CMS, Ryne is a friend and charges a fair amount for that, I have heard a few places charging close to $400 around here.

I threw the car into my price estimation program at work and it says I should quote $415 for just the header install. I think that $400 is ridiculous, but I can see where the shop was coming from if they just based it off of a program's price. I'm also surprised that the shop is worried about the swap not being smog legal... especially for an out of state car

just do it yourself, you'll learn something, and save your self a wad of money. While your at it throw in some plugs and wire's, if you get into trouble just post up in the external section and you'll have an answer pretty quick. or use the good ol' search button
