Spray with degreaser thats safe for wiring/plastic. Let it soak for a bit. Hit the motor with the water hose. A high pressure washer may not be needed, just a simple attachment on end of the hose would be fine (that's what I've used). Use some various brushes for the stubborn parts of the engine bay. When you're done, use a leaf blower to get all of the left over water out from the crevices. If you want, you can use a spray shine for engine/hoses and it will look great if you maintain it, otherwise it will just collect dust again with time.

no dont use degreaser. alot of desgresers can peal the paint off. the engine bays have a primer coat not a clear. just use simple green or soap and water with a damp rag. its time comsuming, but its the safest way.

Actually that's a good thing. I hope the hood flips up over the windsheid blocking his view and he goes head on into a divider, thus cleaning the gene pool.

The very first time I ever washed my engine bay resulted in failure.
after a few hrs of drying, I had to move my car to park outside when I hear a screeching noise and a lil bit of smoke like if something burnt out.
Took it for a drive and my battery meter went up! Resulted it was the alternator fried. It was throwing too much juice to the battery. It popped my headlight bulbs and killed my battery. so never am I doing that again. Im taking it to someone or a place where they can steam it or idk what they do.

De-greaser will in fact mess with your underhood paint like 01SOMSS! said. I used it once and when washing it, I noticed all the water running off was a milky white... MY FRIGGIN PAINT!!!

Also had the alternator issue in the past like Mr.z/28... my guage was spiking like crazy. Took me a few days to figure out what it was. Found out that the plug going into my alternator was collecting a pool of water!

I would put plastic bags over the electrical stuff and be very careful with the pressure washer. Take your time and sooner than you know, you have a nice and clean engine bay! Enjoy!
