if the gage is accurate, you can drive it until it starts knocking i guess.. but by that time extensive machine work (which is the most expensive part of a rebuild) will be required... i drove my 97 lt1 like that for about 7000 miles with low pressure before it started knocking. i thought it was a funky gage but it was just the beginning of engine fail.. verify pressure at idle, under load, and a wot... you will see increases under load and mod acceleration but under wot it should drop significantly... id like to know what happens, just for my own reference..

I'm at 35-40 psi at cold start up then 25ish psi when hot and 40 psi at cruise via a mechanical gauge. Has been running this way w/o any problems for over a year, thought about shimming the oil pump to increase pressure but haven't got around to it.

so to all parties interested, installed the mechanical guage and it read worse than the dash guage. on cold start it read 20 psi on VR1 50 oil smh and on hot idle it was down to like 10... how do you like them apples. so cars gonna be down, and hopefully this next rebuild fixes it... good thing is while its out a bigger cam is goin in... silver lining right?

This wasnt a newly rebuilt motor was it? How could it be a machine shop blunder?
Sucks to hear man..its a risk you take when swapping in a used motor. You can't really be too sure how well the previous owner took care of it and how strong and healthy it is..I've learned this lesson the hard way. Twice
