Woah woah woah...I said the motor was low mileage and well maintained by the previous owner, which it was. I told you that there was no better engine to do a swap with, I was actually going to buy it from Johnny before you did so I would have been just as unlucky as you turned out to be. I don't remember hearing it run before the swap. I did hear it run at that meet in Diamond Bar that one time and it did sound like piston slap to me, cause the car was cold. It didn't sound excessive. But don't give me any bullshit about how I mislead or conned you into buying the motor, Johnny made the money off of the sale, not me, and I did your whole damn swap for 300 bucks, so don't come on here trying to blast my name.
I edited my post just now, after re-reading (before you posted) and realizing it sounded pretty bad. I know you personally felt that the motor was fine and had no intention of conning me, otherwise I wouldn't have done the swap in the first place.
That time at Diamond Bar was one of the only times where it didn't make the noise. Remember how pissed I was about that?
P.S. I'm pretty sure I paid you more than $300, not counting the value of the part(s) I donated. You did it for an exceptionally good rate, and an exceptionally good job, regardless.
My V6 was dying a slow death and had 143k. I didn't have the money to tear apart the LS because the seller wanted $2500 for a car that was trashed and was only worth the engine/trans/fuel lines. I didn't make more than $600 selling parts off of that thing.
So you paid basically $1900 for everything, knowing it might be bad, and knowing that you couldn't fix it? I'm sorry, you knew what was wrong. You really couldn't wait for another engine to show up, maybe for less? Sounds like being impatient kicked your butt this time.

Impatient? I was looking for over a year. I knew my budget.
At this point I think I'm just gonna rebuild my motor. I have a lead on a couple running shortblocks and even an almost-complete cammed 6.0 with a FAST 90 if I can't deal with rebuilding the shortblock. It'd be a good learning experience, plus I will know exactly what's in it, without worrying about the past abuse it's been through...

Impatient my ***. What part of dying engine doesn't make sense? Lee, if you change your mind about that motor in the CL link, I can take a look at it for you and talk to the guy, he lives right by me. Doesn't seem like a bad deal for a complete engine either.

Don't know the history on that motor. Looks pretty good, but I could end up in the same boat I am in now. The only way I can get some peace of mind is to rebuild it myself with the help of friends or have somebody reputable build it.
My recommendation would be to buy a good condition short or long block and swap it in. Then take the old motor and tear it down and rebuild it with a cam and whatnot and swap that into the car in the future.

Honestly that was my plan in the past, but now that I am semi-confident that my Jeep can handle DD-duties, I think I am OK with the car being down for a month or two (hopefully not more... this Jeep is god damned slow) while I collect parts and build the motor/trans.
If it looks like it won't be done before the Irvine meet, I'll throw in a working shortblock.

Didn't know you were looking for a year. Still though, you knew what was wrong with the motor and still bought and swapped it in. I'm sorry dude, it's just I don't understand that. Evening knowing your budget, why do that?

Dude, it makes perfect sense. What doesn't make sense is buying a dying engine, and swapping it in the car.
