Default Might Need A Motor

EDIT: Disregard, will be rebuilding the LS1 it has in it...

I need a working 01+ LS1/LS6 shortblock or 5.3 to tide me over. My motor finally blew up after 2 seconds of easing it into WOT from 65mph... I'm on the side of the road near Primm and will be towing my car to my parents place in the CA high desert.

LOL, if it's just the shortblock you need, why are you specifying '01 plus?

You can get a 5.3 complete engine from LKQ in Stanton for 500 + taxes. That's where I've bought two engines from in the past.

I can get you the number of a 99 Z28 6spd for 2k. It was hit in the front. I'm sure you could part it out and make most of your $ back. That was my plan but no place to do it. Motor supposedly has 80k miles on rebuild and 180k on chassis.

I know he had a bad lifter tick for awhile. I'm guessing it finally gave out?

The motor was from a roll-over car. I kept hearing knocking noises but figured I needed to do a smog legal V8 swap regardless of re long-term reliability.... it lasted just over a year. Some said it wouldn't last a month, and others said the noises were in my head.

I know a guy who has a LQ4 for 900...

Otherwise your cheapest option is to call LKQ. (800) 525-3667
You can haggle a little and get ~100k mile 5.3 for 325+125 core.

Sucks to hear that man. Its pretty hot out there right now. You sure it wasnt detonation or maybe it ran lean? The motor was stock and sounded/ran healthy before. Maybe you should tear it down first and see what happened. I had a friend who swore he killed his motor but it was a broken rocker arm and valve spring, he got scared because of how it sounded. You sure its done?

Good idea. Or a LQ4 for a future 6.0L project? Those are cheap too.

Do you know how damaged the car was from the rollover? Do you know if the motor was touched in anyway by the damage?

No engine was not damaged. It was from my buddy's SS. I did the swap into Lee's car. It was running fine. Lee had the engine in his car for what, a year now? I guess the motor going is unfortunate. I would do as C5Natie suggested and tear it down, atleast hold onto it until you find what actually happed. Even if you did spin a bearing, at the very least you can probably keep the block and use it for a forged 347 in the future.

It sounds like it could be something simple but it looks pretty bad when I see metal particles in the oil, which is now pretty steadily dripping from the bellhousing.

The car itself was fucked up. Bent the firewall, crushed the roof broke all the exposed glass, scratched the front and rear bumpers, tore the front bumper, broke both front fenders, damaged hood and spoiler, dented quarter panels, bent axle, twisted panhard bar, bent transmission crossmember... The engine bay was intact aside from he wrinkled firewall. The amount of forces it was subjected to were insane. The owner lived with only minor injury so it wasn't bad enough to outright kill the motor... it made badnoises that no other LS1s made, from day one of the swap.

Well if the engine was running when it was flipped even for a few seconds, it was probably starved of oil. That would cause some damage.
