5.7L or 3.6L
For the last few months i've been looking at gen 4 LS1 camaros & TAs. But recently I started looking at the new 6 cylinder camaro. I've been doing some looking around on line and it seems like the 3.6L V6 in the camaro is a pretty viable option...30ish miles/gallon on regular & 312 HP/272 ftlbs.
There seems to be a pretty good amount of bolt on goodies (CAIs, shorty headers, exhausts, etc) available to bost up the HP.
Has anyone seen the dyno results...one dyno sheet i saw read 225 HP and another one i saw read 245, but the engine is suposed to be rated at 312? Is it really loosing that much through the drive train?
I was just curious about what some people thought about the new 6 cylinder engine and how it performs in the camaro.

Buy the V6! ... Better fuel economy. Sure, your ********* will feel like they're shrink-wrapped in a vise for the rest of your life and you'll feel like a ***** every time a V8 passes you by at 100+ but hey, your get'n 30mpg! Hahaha!
.... LS1 dude!!

honestly its not even a question
if your between a 4 gen and 2010 v6 for the price you would pay for a 2010 v6 you could pretty much buy a full built ls1 car making 600+ hp or buy a stock 4 gen and save yourself 10k +

honestly, i would go against what all people on here say. you really cant compare a 4th gen to a 5th gen. 4th gen is great if all you want is a fast car, but the comfort, build quality, and modern creature comforts of the 5th gen make them completely different animals.
dont do it just for the MPG as I got 30+ in my 2001 LS1. If you want a modern car thats pretty quick (faster than most imports) the new v6 is great. If you want a track car or just a fast car thats inexpensive to modify but gets few looks from people other than fbody owners and sucks on long drives then get a 4th gen.

... How the hell did you get 30+mpg in your 01?!! I'm lucky if I get 23!

Short answer: New Camaro = Heavier car, less hp, better MPG.
LS1 Camaro = Older car, less expensive, more hp, less MPG
Long Answer: If you DD the car, get the new Camaro, all of the looks and feel, just less under the right foot, but in my opinion is an all around better car and is more recognizable. If you want something to just haul *** and only please yourself, then buy the LS1.

Other than that. truer words were never spoken.

if you want comfort you can get a Used GS or a Caddy for under 5k.
I dont like the new camaro one bit. Im 5'11" and I feel huge in that car. the roof is low and just feels bulky. If you want MPG get a prius. if you want speed get an LS1 or the new SS.
if you get the v6 you will regret it later.

dont want that to happen.
i was thinking about swaps for my third gen, and i entertained the idea of a twin turbo or procharged v-6. i remember seeing jay leno getting a twin turbo'd v6 2010.
if you just want a cruiser/dd, a v6 might not be too bad, especially if you throw turbos/a procharger on it

That 312HP is only enough HP to STILL lose to five year old V6 Nissans. The motor itself is great - it's the vehicles that GM puts them in that is the problem. Avg. 1/4 times are in the 14s for the new V6 Camaro.
