It's been like this for ever in Texas, why do you think we have 1000hp street legal cars I wasn't worried about this junk but now that I read this I can buy more parts freely and not have to worry as much. Yay

Not to highjack, but how do you legally (smog legal) swap an LS1 into a '89 Camaro?

simple. Swapped in the Ls1 with all the smog crap. Put the cats in the factory location. Went to the ref. Did a visual inspection and the sniffer test. Passed. Gave me a new smog sticker to stick to my car. done

I wonder if I can go to the ref now and just pass with a visual to get a smog sticker...

You had to swap in the fuel tank too right?

yes you do. Anything that has to deal with smog, has to be in your car.

Excellent! Since you have done this already. Do you know how displacement ( an increase of ci) will effect getting a smog sticker?

I don't get it. I thought that engines and other related equipment placed into cars had to be either optional and/or of the identical year of the car receiving the new equipment. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Engine can also be out of a newer model year.

I've been wondering how this applies to the corvette. Which has the C6 has the LS7 427 ci optional engine which comes in the Z06. But does the larger displacement disqualify it for swapping it into a C5 (which maxed out a 5.7 liters).

Thanks in advance.

Displacement means nothing. The state doesn't care what you do or what car the new motor came out of if it's legal in the state. You can swap any new(er) motor into your car so long as all emission equipment gets swapped and goes in the correct places too. Updating is okay, back-dating is frowned upon

And I highly doubt that because you have a 2000 motor in an 89 car will make a difference. They care about the year of the car, not year of motor. Your car isn't called a 2000 Camaro now..
