Photoshop will process the 3 photos and turn them into one HDR shot.

alright, i went out and took a couple shots but i took 5 instead of 3 (-2,-1,0,1,2). i also screwed around with the ISO. then i used photomatix pro to merge them. eventually ill probably get a nikon d5100 camera but for now ill try to work with the one i got. how do these look.

4, 5, 6, 7, 8 look like garbage. Just my $0.02.

Those are sharper and much more natural looking. The car shots are supposed to be artistic, I guess, but they aren't too overbearing (compared to 70% of the HDR shots in this thread). The gun shots are what a proper HDR should look like!

Good thread: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...4&changemode=1
Decent example: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6tOScCUA62...h/335_HDR1.jpg

It's fashionable to make HDR images that couldn't possibly exist in the real world. IMHO, this is where the ridicule is centered. These cartoon results do not appeal to me and others.
When I do leverage the capabilities HDR, which is on many of my scenics, it is to take the place of using a graduated neutral density filter (which I still also use). The result is subtle exposure blending that looks perfectly natural. Remember, the grad ND itself is used as a tool to compensate for the limited dynamic range of our cameras, which is considerably less than the dynamic range of our eyes. When used in this manner, HDR is truly powerful. The operative word here is "subtle."
Finally, I almost never tell anyone when I've used HDR. And there's no way they'd ever be able to tell from scrutinizing my prints of up to 40 x 60 inches.

Nice little detail.
