Unhappy Replacing Master Cyl?

I have this issue where every time i start the car, press the clutch pedal and put it in 1st gear, the clutch pedal would only return maybe about 1/2 inch, and at this point, i cant get it out of gear, unless i shut off the car. Even if i press the pedal all the way, the car would still move, and it wont dis-engage. If i dont put it in gear though, i have a good pedal pressure.

since i have a spare master cyl sitting in my garage, i am thinking about replacing my old one. How hard is it and how much does a shop normally charge for this sort of job?

thanks!

Sid.

Did u replace the pressure plate with the clutch? We had a car like this and it was the clutch. I really don't think the master is the issue.

exhaust ORY , torque arm, driveshaft, transmission it shouldn't take too long..

if you replaced your clutch always a great idea to replace the slave unless you know it has low miles on it the 98-2000 cars slave were shitty compaired to the 01-02s they always had problems

Yeah, I did replace the slave when i did the clutch swap. I bought the slave cyl brand new from SNL Performance. They said that it's the 01+ version of the slave cyl.

Now i am at a loss. The problem with taking down the tranny is i dont have a tranny jack, and it is a pain the *** to put it together.

EDIT: unless you have a lift that I can borrow? LOL

ok, new symptoms.

I just re-bleed it. With the cover on or off, i pump the clutch, and slowly the pedal starts to sink in. Also, if i hold the clutch pedal down for more than 30 sec, it will stay there and i cant get in or out of gear. However, as soon as i lift the pedal up manually, i can shift just find, for about 20 second or so, then it sticks on the floor again.

WTF is happening?? I am almost willing to pay someone to fix this ****** thing!!

Master cylinder is not hard to do i did blown98Z28's in about 45 ish minutes, just get the nuts off the u-bolt holding the old one in place and wiggle it out, we replaced with a tick master and that wasn't too hard I kept the long rod on and used that to guide it into the hole. PM me if you would like I can take care of it for you at the shop.

yea its not hard at all the part i had trouble with was putting the damn u bolt back in there is like no space to fit your hand since its right under the booster and the u bolt has to go in even on both sides or else you cant push through if one side id sticking in more

Yeah that would be a problem, we did the tick master and that wasn't too hard, plus the tick allows you to adjust the clutch engagement point.

Replied to PM.

the seal on the master could be bad as well wont know until it comes out

agree if the master has never been off before its a pain at first to get the star washers out and U out but after that its candy esp when you have someone guiding on the inside to put back on

gl man hope yah get it figured out soon
