Dreemury2k SS, I recently did a ls1 swap on a 3rd gen TA, The total cost was around 4k-5k. It depends on how much you get engine/trans for. If you take your time to look and have the money in hand, you can score a good deal. As for the wiring it's not difficult at all, Like Adam said if you get the wiring diagrams and know how to read them it's no nightmare at all.
You can make the stock gauges work as well, that's what I did. I like this because with a silent exhaust it's sleeper status

2days if Your motivated and know how to work with wiring Or have the time
2weeks to do a swap if you put some good hours on it having all the parts available . But nothing goes as planned.
With that it's possible doing a swap for 3k. Maybe even less . I've seen people doing 4.8 , lm7 and l33 swaps for even cheaper.
