I got and illegal tint ticket once and just paid the fine. I do not know if that will work for the smog gods though. Interested if that will work, posted the result if you try that route.

If he got a ticket for illegal exhaust, more than likely it's a ref ticket. I know some people just pay the ticket. One person on this board got pulled a ticket for the same thing. He just paid the fine. It was around $500; however, I have heard just paying the fine doesn't clear the ticket. The next time you get pulled over for the same violation, it could be worse. In fact your car will probably be impounded.
If you do put it back to wear it would pass the REF smog, then your ticket will be $250-300.

does it have the ref sticker on the back of the ticket? the driver should have applied a sticker to the the back fro the ref to sign.
I thought they didnt have refs anymore because of the budget cuts?

I should have said that illegal exhaust in regards to emissions, e.g., no cats, longtubes then here in Cali it will be more than likely a REF ticket. If just for being too loud, then it's just a fix it ticket.

No sticker was placed on the back. Just says modified exhaust correctable "yes" and modified/altered smog device (long tube headers) "NO"

That's weird. Since it says modified/altered smog device, I thought for sure the LEO would have put a sticker on the back that states you have to take it to a REF. Did the cop say anything about a REF?

Better put the stock exhaust back on and go to the ref. Nothing else you can do really.

Doesnt matter what the cop said, it's just like a tint ticket bro just more intense. You don't always have to listen to a cop to get things done accordingly.

Call up the court and see what they say. I got a ticket a little while back for "being too loud" and a front plate fix it ticket but the cop put a ref sticker on the back..long story short I kept delaying it and was going to fight it but called the court, they said the dumbass cop put the exhaust as NON correctable so I had to pay that fine..got the front plate signed off and $250 later I was out of the ticket with nothing done to my car..

Depending on which penal code was written, it can be corrected but by a certain officer.
