I Need Gears!
But yes, a basic rebuild kit plus gears should let you have some fun for awhile on a stock car. Just don't do any clutch dumps..
I have a guy here in the Anaheim area who rebuilt my moser 9" and it was quiet as a mouse.. Basic rebuild kit with motive gears.. PM me for more info if you want

PM sent. I don't plan on making any passes with it, so just cruising with the Nitto 555's. I'm thinking the gears, rebuild kit, install and a mail order tune to correct the speedo is going to put me well North of $1k. I had 4.10's in my 96 TA and it's hard to ignore the SOP feel of the steeper gears on the street.

I just had John, the owner, install a rear main seal, do both U joints on my '87 turbo Buick. A friend of mine had his gears on his '87 GN done there.
Great work & price for me.
He's definitely worth a call.

John had the seal for my turbo Buick in stock and probably generally does.
Did the other shops say why they can't do it?

That's ons shop that I wouldn't even let them look at my turbo Buick.
I've owned 5 turbo Buicks since I got into them in about '93 or so. Rope seals went out with high buckle shoes. I'm very doubtful that the rope seal is still available. Although not exactly a speeding bullet, my Buick runs 12.7 with just a few bolt-ons. And above, we're talking rear driveshaft (pumpkin) seal and not the rear main seal. Neoprene seals are generally the way to go.
