Default So why the lack of manual trans??

Why are more and more people going a/t?? Are they really that much more funner to drive than a m/t?? Like with the 2016 Corvette, only 9,249 of the 40,689 built came with manual transmissions. Don't have the sale stats for the Camaro, but the 5th gen and the gen-6 Camaros I see on the road seem to be about 95% a/t. My '98 SS is a m/t. Had a m/t Cavalier and a Saturn SC5. Of coarse the Cobalt is an a/t so other family memeber can drive. Glad my work truck is a m/t. I like controling my cars. Seems much more fun.

Maybe because people are getting more lazy these days. And they want everything to be done for them. Lol

People are lazy, and automatic transmission technology has advanced A LOT in the past 15 years or so. "Dual clutch" paddle shift transmissions have made themselves present in everything from a VW Golf GTI to a $400,000 Ferrari. They now drive seamlessly at low speed, in traffic situations, the 1st gen of this technology back in 2000, 2002, drove like your 15 year old son learning to drive stick in heavy traffic. Conventional torque converter automatics now have 6, 7, 8, and 9 speeds with advanced computer controls. They shift faster than ever and the computer is pretty good about making sure you are in the right gear. All those extra gear ratios have made them just as fast, if not faster than cars with a manual transmission.

I have a manual GTO that I do drag race occasionally. It's just a fact that the a/t's shift faster than a human so you're leaving et on the table. With that being said, I do have a lot of fun driving the manual, but if I bought another performance car I'd do an auto. I've been through a few clutches, replaced the shifter and run slicks now because of my hp level. With an auto, I could just do a stall, run drag radials and not worry as much about the drivetrain.

I had an 06 M6 GTO. At first it was fun to drive, but then I became to get annoyed because I was daily driving it 50 miles a day and most of it was in stop and go traffic. I sold it because I wanted a 98-02 A4 SS again like I had . . . ended up buying my 2000 SS I sold 4 years ago and I was happy then and happy now it is an auto.
IMHO it's personal preference. And yes the technology for these auto's has come a long way!!!

I bought my first manual car about 4 months ago and I love it. I have fun shifting through the gears. I don't see myself buying another performance car without a manual transmission. Well unless it's a GTR

Manuel transmissions are fun but so are stalled auto's.
And stalled auto's win.
I run 12.2 in my stalled auto with exhaust.... Do that in a m6 with exhaust only

As the years progress, automatic transmissions are getting better and better. Majority of people like convenience. Automatic was made for convenience... and now as time progresses, automatics just outperform manuals in every way (in performance cars). Therefore, simple supply and demand determine the production of car with certain types of transmissions.

Manual transmission is simply old news. Unfortunately its a dying breed, (I myself really want for M/T to prevail but I'm only one person) and of course its not going to go away anytime soon, but eventually they will get phased out.
