Default Anti-theft?

I hear that auto theft is somewhat of a problem in San Diego. What's recommended to help prevent it? I've got too much money invested in my car to have some ******* steal it on me.

Even though I'm swapping engines, I've got a means for retaining VATS functionality. But that will only go so far.........

Please give me some advice on how to keep me car "mine." This is something virtually non-existent here in Vermont, so tell me anything/everything - even the stuff you might deem as just "common sense" about where to park/not park, stuff like that.

Looking forward to hopefully hooking up and meeting with some fellow f-body owners, also.

In certain areas it's kind of bad. What part of the county are you moving to? Last list I saw Honda was the #1 stolen car. Fbodys were not even in the top 10 on the list, luckily.

That's good to hear! I'll be moving to East County (Spring Valley) initially. But I'll be spending a lot of time around Miramar, LaJolla, Mira Mesa, and up north a bit around Escondido, Ramona, downtown San Diego, etc.

What areas are considered the "bad" areas?

Yea a few of those areas are kinda sketchy... like Mira Mesa, lots of Asian gangs. You'll be save as long as your not driving a Honduh. lol

And whats wrong with Mira Mesa..lived here 20 years and have never had a problem

The gangs here are constitute a bunch of funny hair wearing rice driving punks...most are HS age.....and really are more of a social thing Vs a gang....They hang out in parks and dance....

yeah..their dangerous alright!!!

The county's car theft zones are the areas with the greatest amount of vehicle theft tracked throughout a portion of 2003. In order of severity, these areas included:
Mira Mesa
San Ysidro
Mission Valley East
Pacific Beach
North Park
Never said they were dangerous. I know the word "gang" may imply that, but like it or not your not exactly living in a low crime area. Believe me I know dangerous, I grew up in South Philly.

Put on good alarm like a clifford with multiple ignition kills. I give the same advice to all my friends and it has saved 2 from being taken. Still had the radio's and some other parts taken, but not the car. These were both honda's. One was hit at a club parking lot and the other at a mall. Air horns on the alarm are a good deterant also. If someone really wants it they will just throw down some oil and drag it onto a flat bed. Main thing is don't rev before you park to draw attention to the car, and don't park in shity areas. Keep it on this side of the boarder.

Low profile. Take your head unit face plate off (if applicable). Always use your alarm. A car cover helps when parked outside, but may also attract attention. The idea is to make your car un-inviting.

You'd be astonished at how many guys come home "thumping" there expensive stereo systems with the really nice rims and park outside, only to find there car gone and stripped by the morning. Playing your system loud around the neighborhood or at the 7Eleven is not only rude, but it is advertising.

But all in all, if a thief wants your ride bad enough, it is gone. Get insurance, and check on low comprehensive deductibles. You'd be amazed at how little your insurance goes up from 500 to 100 deductibles. mine went up $12. That's not bad at all.

I think the big problem is not the deductible but if your vehicle is stolen and you have a lot of mods on it, getting the diff between the insurance company's ACV (actual cash value) and your actual replacement value..

Bottom line is that if a thief wants your car he is gonna get it. The most common way to steal a car now is just to tow it! Its striped and guted before you know its gone. Or they will just take the car from you with you in it! My friend got car jacked for his V6 camaro. So dont loose sleep on it man, because there really is not much you can do..

One of the most important things you can do is just be aware of your surrondings.. Obvious stuff.. IE Dont roll you ride with brand new 20" wheels and tire, stereo blasting through Compton.. (Obviously an extreme example) but you know what I mean.. I wouldn't drive a pimped out ride to the theatre in downtown LA watch a double feature on a Saturday night and expect my ride to be ok in the parking lot. Maybe it's just me and I am paranoid, but its actually pathetic..
