Default bringing a modded f-body to CA, smog Q's

I got a 99 formula with some basic mods, ls6 intake, lid, etc, and stock headers, stock cats, and a magnaflow muffler.
Should I be worried moving to california? I also nuked EGR and AIR. I do have HPTuners so it throws no codes and runs very clean, but I've heard horror stories about passing smog in CA.

Without AIR, it won't pass. With the LS6 intake, you might have to take it to a referree and convince him it is a 2001-2002 LS1 engine, other wise you will fail.

referee? how does the whole process look like? what are they really looking for?
AIR is easy to do, 10 mins and i'll just put the pump back in, is that all that's necessary?

you will need a 01-02 computer and possibly the 01-02 right side manifold also if you plan to go to the referee.he will look to see that all components are from a correct swap.install the air injection, call the 1-800 number, then wait for your appointment.when you get there tell him you swapped to a 01-02 motor then wait and see what he says.he may miss the computer all together(manifold maybe not because the egr block off plate will give it away) if so
then your home free.

actually, that's a good question, i've been thinking of flashing my 99 pcm with a 01 code. are they gonna bitch if the year of the pcm (in software) is different than the car?

Actually, the PCM is required with the "engine" swap to be emissions legal, so yes. The exhaust manifolds (both sides) will need to be changed to 2001-2002 as well as the AIT tube fittings. That should be it for the "2001-2002 Engine" swap. You should be good to go.

Its a pain in the butt and like XpEditlous said if you know the right people you can pass. Am in the process of trying to someone to hook it up. I can hook it up for 80 to 95 cars. If u move close to San jose I have GM club called MOST WANTED if you are interested.

You'd probably want to put the AIR and EGR back on to keep it easy. You can probably pass just fine with the codes turned off, you can have a couple 'not readies', but it would fail visual. Or you could look around for a seedy shop with guys that speak bad english and odds are they wouldn't notice/care on the visual. But it would be a gamble, playin it safe would probably be the better bet.

Man am I glad I no longer live in LA (and I was born there). The hoops I had to jump through to smog the 96 were rediculous. Out here in the Phoenix area (Maricopa county) they plug into the ALDL and if it doesn't throw a code you pass (OBDII cars only). Outside Maricopa county (and a few others) they don't even bother.

Sell the LS6 manifold and get an slp with the egr. It doesn't always work to just "know" someone here in cali. Cars are now getting randomly selected to go to a referee, so you don't get to choose where you take it. Don't you just love the sunshine state.
