Default Moving to Phoenix, AZ...

What do I need to know? Are there modifications that must be avoided? Are there any must-have mods for living in Phoenix?

I'm putting my air conditioner back in, I know that's a must... also looks like there are a lot of $^#&*#@*^-ing speed bumps in town.

Anything else to watch out for? Local speed traps? Pet peeves of the local authorities? Laws I might not be aware of? I'm coming from the Chicagoland area...

Thank you all!!!

Moving to Arizona, you would have to worry with smog emissions laws. Arizona and California are BIG on those.

One trick that has worked for me and perhaps others, disconnect your battery to reset your PC. Do that before going to smog, that would do it.

Find a address in another co. to req your car. I live in Pinal Co. And once you take your car for the vin inspection, sometimes they inspect a tiny bit more......your done. Never a inspection again!!! My B4C camaro I just registered as I bought it out of state. They checked the vin on the door, and on the dash. Said "Have a Nice Day!"
Pinal Co. has a part VERY close to the "valley" Get a apartment there so you have a address!

You're correct. I just had my 2000 Formula emissions tested 3 months ago. They plug into your onboard computer, make sure it has no codes, and you're good to go. Didn't even so much as look at my tailpipes. One thing you might want to watch out for is any mod that would advance your ignition timing. We only have 91 octane here. If you don't have tinted windows, you're gonna want to do that. We also have red light cameras in some cities (Chandler and Scottsdale for sure, not sure about other cities). Also in January 2006 Scottsdale is putting in photo radar on the 101 freeway. They go through phases of strict enforcement on that freeway. Lots of crashes and fatalities. It's not uncommon to have people driving 80-90 mph on it, especially in the Scottsdale section.
If you're looking for a shop, I'd recommend Arizona Automasters. They're located in Chandler, off I-10 and Chandler Blvd. They specialize in 3rd and 4th gen F-bodies and Corvettes, as well as GM trucks. Good bunch of guys, very friendly and they do quality work.

There's a ton of hot females at ASU. A ton. That is, if you're attracted to chicks that are blond, slightly tan, and wear short shorts, a tank top, and sandals. Literally, thats how they all dress.
As far as street racing, AZ isn't really open country. Theres a lot of development going on all the time, a lot of construction, and a lot of traffic. The main streets are all set up in 1 mile square blocks (in the east valley anyway).
