if i could take a guess about timing on bretts car, since hes running higher boost, he needs to play with the timing so he doesnt detonate? which is also why he runs higher octane, and meth, turbo cars like to detonate at higher boost levels i guess. i have no idea about the affects of advancing or retarding...

well... ill take a guess... in warmer weather, you would need to retard the timing, that way theres more room for error, if you will. and in cooler weather, you can advance the timing to get the most performance without detonating due to extreme temperatures.

i would think timing for bretts car would be the time the spark needs to ignite to allow full use of the fyel and exhaust, and since turboes work a little different than NA, he needs his timing just right so it doesnt lean out from extra air. you want a good A/F ratio

Retarding the timing will slow down ignition to allow the fuel to completely combust, thus preventing detonation. *edit detonation is where the cylinder temperatures and the gas ignites itself before the spark plug fires. also leading to other dangerous ****. /edit. If you advance it too far you will get pre ignition where the coil fires before the optimum cylinder pressure is reached and cause some pretty dangerous ****. One may lead to the other, preignition can lead to detonation and vise versa. So I want to be in that window.


When refering to "dangerous ****" means parts go flying if problems persist without a fix. head gaskets, rings, rods, pistons pick your poison one will fail.
