Edelbrock Coated Carb-shorties, stock cats, SLP Y and a B&B Triflo...the roadside checks and smog due this year has made me put my LT's in the rafters.

What roadside checks? Checking for illegal mods, or the sniffer?

In San Bernardino County, they have roadside checks...flag you over randomly, could be check on tags, insurance cards, they have sniffers...they are well versed on mods etc. I've seen them in San Bernardino near the University and have been stopped in Ontario (in my Co Car, they asked me for my proof of insurance etc) ..thye were stopping every other car.

You guys with Shorty headers...how much gain did you notice/dyno? AND if you had it to do over again would you still get the shorty's or stay stock or go non-CARB compliant?

Also, anyone with shorty's and magnaflow on here have a sound or video clip?

I never dyno my car yet.. and noticed lil difference in performance .. sounds alot better though! if u have 00-02 f-body i heard better to stay stock over shorties (but thats what i hear) if i had to do it over i would get some LT's just wit a catted Y (which i plan on doin in the near future)

I posted a sound clip in this section awhile back. At the time I had JBA shorties, high flow cats and a Magnaflow catback. Maybe a search on soundclips will bring it up. I wouldn't recommend doing shorties though. Next to no gains for alot of work and money.

I hate to see my tax $$ going to mobile sniffer tests and checks for illegal mods! CA is so gay! When will this state wake up!

Would I get shorties again? I bought the shorties from Summit over two years ago, knowing this day would come.

When I went back to "semi" stock last month, I could have put on my old manifolds, but figured any little bit helps plus the weight advantage vs the old cast stockers....easier than going on a diet!

Power gain from the stockers? Probably a mental gain, but I made too many other changes at the sametime to report for sure. My car was dyno'd and tuned with the new setup all at once.

My old setup was FLP's and a Magnaflow.....I may have a clip somewhere, just have to find.

Dyanmaxx SuperMaxx LT's, catted Y-pipe, and Magnaflow cat-back. Kept all the stock manifolds and Y-pipe and will just swap it out every 2 years when that becomes an issue. It's so easy on the LS1 cars, it's really not that big of a deal.

Good hp gains is a relative statement. Were talking 8-10 rwhp(maybe) on a 98-99 car, and ~3 rwhp on a 00-02 car. Unless you are taking off the heads anyways, it is hardly worth the $$ and effort. BTW, smog legal is just a way of saying the part doesn't make any hp....

Are there any LT that will pass CA smog? Will they pass if you have LT with cats?
A friend was telling me that bassani was working on some smog legal LTs.

And are shorties even worth it? do they add any power for the money?

LT's cant pass smog simply because when you put them on, you're changing the location of the cats. According to CA smog rules, cats must remain in the same place, thus making LT's illeagle (even though with a tune they easily pass the sniffer test). Makes no sense to me but I dont make the rules.
