Question about Cats in California
I was looking at this Cat on ebay and it says at the bottom of the ad:
OBD 1 and OBD 2 APPROVED!
EPA 50 State APPROVED
*Not legal for use in California OBD2(96/up)
Why is this not for 96/up? I wonder if it's a 3-way?
I also looked in the summit catalog and every Cat they sell is not for use in CALIF?

Anyway the reason why they are legal, is that california cars after 96 are all ODBII, and cali laws state that you cant have the cats in a non stock (OEM) location,k hence this is why LTs and mid lengths are illegal. I believe there are also laws about hi flow and changing cats out before the car has 100K miles.
Stupid laws if you ask me. Here we are, attempting to keep the exhaust somewhat clean, and they go and pass laws like that. No wonder they make so many people say F cats. I removed them on my 383 IROC with TDs back in 93/94 but ended up putting in a Y pipe catted set up afterwords. Now, Im getting old, to where I wouldnt run w/o cats, but thats just me.
