yes it is dirt. It is hard packed. It's damn near cement. Will traction be an issue, yes. The lake bed is like 2-3 miles long. Maybe you could get a race going from a good roll? Either way i will be going to check it out, not to race.
remember they also use this dry lake bed to do high speed runs.

Last time I went to el-mirage

I was finding layers of sand everywhere... incl. on top of the gastank 1.5 years later ... 1/4" worth....
