Ok, I found one car matching your description almost perfectly:

Looks silver in the pic... 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z29 82K 6spd. air lid, subrframes, exhust, shifter, new clutch... $12,000 obo 310-850-6410

Then there is a similar (silver 2002 Z28 t-top w/70K) car but salvage title for $9999 (818) 723-3820 (not sure of tranny type)...

And there's an odd listing for a 1999 SS black, leather, 3.73, 6 spd. for $8500 323-581-1256 which must have HIGH mileage because it doesn't list it... Pretty cheap though...

IF you want to spend more there's at least 6 SS's matching your description but they are $13,000-$15,000....

I would have to say I agree with everyone here on finding something out of So Cal if possible. I picked up my almost stock '00 SS M6 with 45k miles back in July '05 for only 13K in Wisconsin, the car was accident free and VERY well taken care of. Smogging it in California wasn't a problem at all, in fact after looking at the results on the print out it wasn't even close to failing.

The prices here for the most part in So Cal on LS1's is just crazy IMO.

you're going to have to look outside of 200mi if you want anything decent.
I found one tonight online here in SD. 2001 Firebird M6, 15,000 miles and the guy wants $13,000 for it. All stock (not even an exhaust). That seems a little low for having hardly any miles on it. Makes me wonder

Did you find it on ebay? I don't mind looking outside the state just for the reason you mentioned.

If its legit, I'll buy it. Sure its not a V6???

In response to another one of your questions, $800 for shipping from TX is on the high side of an enclosed trailer. You don't need an enclosed trailer, so you shouldn't pay more than $500.

Reason I suggest TX is because of supply and demand, they seem to have alot out there. If you find a car you like and the price is reasonable, contact a mechanic locally and have him check it out. Shouldn't cost more than $75.

Also, don't trust KBB for car prices. Use edmunds.com and check out their TMV (true market value). It is the car price based on what the car is actually selling for. Only use KBB if you want to inflate your own car price or pay more for a car.

I found my SS in Denver. Got a great price, 1 way ticket plus expenses for the trip back was only a few hundred $. The price for the same car in So Cal would have been much more.

I checked out Camaro King when I moved here... I personally would not buy anything there. Everything I see is overpriced and any problems are jury rigged...

Yeah I'm sure its an LS1! Who knows if its legit or not.

My only concern with buying from TX is that I've been warned about the flood damage and influx of vehicles into the state after Katrina.

camaro kings cars are clean. i was helping out there a few years ago. All the cars are in great running condition. Most cars with high miles he re-sprays to make them look nicer, but he doesn't buy crashed or beaten cars.

But if you know any good places to start, I'm open for suggestions! Thanks!

I would be all over it, but I don't want an automatic. Strickly a manual.

I went to the location and looked at alot of his cars, they seemed well put together to me. I bought one from him. Looked it over pretty good, yeah, he resprayed it, they did a pretty good job. He has been really good at addressing any questions and issues I have had, which really have been very minor. He has a bunch of very nice cars in there. He let me drive a triple black bird that he had lowered since I mentioned to him I might lower mine. Talked with him for probably 3 plus hours, seems like a straight forward guy and truely loves cars.
