It sounds like it's knocking! Be sure to run good gas. If you can afford it, it would never hurt to run a couple gallons of race gas with your fill ups. Where in town do you live?

The rattle you are hearing is detonation (most likely). Is you car tuned? Might want to retard the timing a little for those really hot days or run higher octane gas.

Pull your MAF and clean it first with some electronic component cleaner or MAF cleaner from autozone or something that doesnt' leave a residue behind. A lot of pinging problems are caused by a dirty maf.

The CPU would have thrown a code about the MAF before it got that bad to cause detonation.

You have no idea what you are talking about as usual. There is a table in the computer that specifies how off a MAF sensor can be compared to the VE table before it throws a code. In an f-body, it's a huge difference. A MAF not only controls fuel but also directly affects load, which timing is based on in an LS1 computer. Why don't you learn a few things before talking about stuff. In addition I would stop while you are behind, you have no idea what you are about to start by trying to follow me around and discredit me on the internet just because I refused to tune your car. You are the kind of customer nobody wants.

cleaning the MAF should be a regular maintenance item, just like changing your oil and putting air in your tires IMHO. it really does make that big of difference if left unchecked. especially if you run an oil based filter.

I agree, never had a MAF based car before, so I read this thread went to Checker Auto Parts, then went home took the MAF off and I couldn't believe how much stuff had accumilated on the wires. Took maybe 10 minutes max to do. I will do this every oil change from now on.

On a side not, I read that this could cause the car to run lean if left uncheck/dirty. Did a plug change and there was signs of detonation and lean signs on a few of the rear plugs. Hopefully this will fix that issue. BTW, found out my arms a to big to change the passenger side plugs, so I employeed the assistance of a friend to help.
