great just moved here from CA hoping to get away from some of this... getting LT's and ORY installed as well....

it's one thing to pass/fail emissions, but it's another to just get more money outa people i.e. the visual inspection...

The visual inspection should be tossed out the window. If a car passes the sniffer, that should be good enough PERIOD!

that article said they are trying to employ "california emission standards"

so that would most likely mean full visual and strict sniffer specs......bummer

I have no idea what CA has so I can not compare. 96 and later is plug in check only. They are supposed to do a visual but I have never seen them do one. I know of people that have gone threw with no CATs and passed the pug in check even with the CAT program removed from the comp. I even passed with my 96 Impala, heads, cam, headers, no CATs, Cat program removed. I am sure there will be some changes in the future. We will just have to keep a look out.

they dont have to do visual, as long as you pass the plug in and gas cap, youre good, you fail then you fail, they'll tell you why.

IIRC you only need emissions if you live or work in the Pheonix/Tucson metro area. Anywhere else is exemp. I have heard some people say that there is a visual inspection for cats, but I've never had it. Then its just a gas cap test and a pcm check (plug in, car on, car off, pass/fail) Last time I went to get it done I had just replaced the battery about 3 days prior. The PCM didnt have enough info for its checks so they actually sniffed it.

edit: Im in Tucson BTW

If you live in Az and do not have a 85xxx zip code, you do not have to worry about emissions.

I live in Surprise... 85374

When I first moved here I went and got it smogged... wasn't really paying attention but was in and out in like 5 minutes... i'm guessing they just checked the codes...

seeing as i'm getting a 224 cam, LT's, ORY, BBK Manifold, and BBK TB soon i'm hoping I won't run into any issues.... CMS is doing the tune so I should be fine as far as that goes...

Wow. I was told by a buddy of mine that used to work at the DMV the info I posted before. I had a 86333 zip code for a while for my '70 so I didn't have to deal with it anymore. I got tired of putting my cats on every year to pass. I had them flanged so it wasn't too bad but not as easy as having to do nothing. Oh well, I tried to contribute.

My car is registered in Az, Military...But I curently live in Washington, So either way I am good to go. lol Cause Washington does'nt care about my car, since its not a local plate.
