Default Paint job???

A friend of mine got a quote from some guy in Vista for a paint job for $6000. That includes sanding it down to the metal, taking everything out and off, including doors and hood and back hatch.. Is that really worth $6000???? Does anyone know of any good places that will do, I guess, the same job or even better for less thn $6K? To me that's WAAY to expensive. He said he also gave him a quote for $3000 for just a "regular" paint job. Any help or advice would be great. Thanks.

His car:1987 Iroc Z-28.

yea i think its too much, its too bad he doesn't have time... cuz there are classes around fullerton high school and he can do his own work on it or had kids work on it for cheap or nothing at all he just has to pay for paint

Are they dropping the motor and trans and removing all suspension and painting the entire thing? If so then I think that could be right...I know its way cheaper if you remove everything and fix any dents and stuff yourself. As in take it in just a rolling chassis...
