Default Do you live in Cali, but you car is registered somewhere else? Smog question..

Hey guys, well I'm thinking about modding my car, but I don't want to deal with the smog issue. I have family that lives in WA where they don't have to smog their cars.

If you have your car registered in another state, have cops ever bothered you about it? I know that you're supposed to register you car in Cali if you're going to live here. How does insurance work?

Anyone have any ideas?

My insurance is based on California rates but my car is registered in Louisiana. I dont have to do smog because of that fact but me not having cats.. is still a no-no in every state.

It's not difficult at all. I'm just wondering about the cops. I know that if they keep seeing me around with WA plates, they'll do something about it. You're supposed to register your car with Cali within, I believe, 30 days from when you start living here if you move from another state.

I'm in the military and my home of record is in Louisiana. I still have a louisiana driver's license, so, I still fall under Louisiana law when it comes to my car, I think. They wont mess with me about my car being registered in La because i'm in the military, i think...

Ahh okay, so you're here because of the military, not because you live here. I think that does fall under something else. Put that is different from what I want to do.

Anyone else?

Technically thats not true. He could say he lives at that address and they would never know, as long as his license matches that address.....

Well since I don't have a WA license that's the way I might have to look at it. Not sure yet.

Just get your car registered in California. Mod it how you will. Then when it comes time to re-up your smog, just put the cats back on. i dunno... just an idea.. never dealt with the issue..

Well it's not just a CAT issue, but internal engine stuff.

Anyone else?

Oh I wasn't talking about illegal, but it won't pass smog and emissions equipment removed.

i had my car registered in michigan for the first year that i lived in cali, when i got pulled over the cop only gave me **** about having a Mi license but didn't say anything about my car. And no you can't have a license in 2 states, they punched a hole through my MI one when i got my Ca one- making it not valid.
