Default My jackass move

So i decided to take the t-tops off today cuz it was somewhat nice out here, and go for a cruise. Well i noticed i had some stuff flapping around in the back (like plastic and stuff) so i pulled over to move it around to the front. guess i set my keys down between the seal and the frame where the hatch closes down, forgot about them, and proceeded to close my trunk on my keys. Thankfully i had my little toolbox with me, i had to crawl over my door, fold the seat down, and stretch back there over my tops, pull the liner back from the trunk release, and actually remove the trunk release mechanism (those 3 bolts) so i could lift it up high enough to get my keys. all of this, while i'm trying not to hit my car too hard to set off the alarm. anyone else make this stupid mistake ever?

yeah but when i closed the trunk, the alarm automatically reset itself, and the trunk release button wouldn't work. i was stopped to eat, and came out and opened the hatch instead of unlocking the car.

can you get new keys with the resistor anywhere or does that have to be a gm only thing?

Not exactly, you can buy the ones from ebay and take it to the dealer to set the correct resistor ohm. They are usually cheaper on ebay than the dealer.

But if you want a spare just in case this happens again, you can go to any key shop. Most of them carry the blanks with the GM logo.

are you talking about going to any key shop for the accessory key? that's what i needed today, but an extra ignition key would be nice.

Yeah, most key shops carry the accesory key with the GM logo. As far as the Ignition, you can buy it on ebay and have the dealer program it. Unless you're like me and can't wait for the mail, buy it directly from the dealer.

Use a multimeter on your keys, read the resistance, then buy them off ebay. Take them to get cut, and you're set. I believe my blanks cost $6 each off ebay.

there is a bypass. Gotta cut the loom under the dash and solder in a resistor with the right resistance. then you can just use any old key with the right cut.

That or cut the loom and just keep trying to start the car. I believe after 50 tries it goes into bypass mode. Thats how i did mine. I never used a resistor. The security light stays on though.
