this ever happen to you?
Try going into any pepboys, kragen, autozone etc... and telling them you have a Trans Am They give you that deer in the headlights look cause it is not in their computer. Then you have to tell them firebird then they ask 6 or 8 cylinder.
I usually feel like grabbing the computer from them and telling them to get out of my way.
Clerk at Autozone: What year and model?
me: It's a 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
Clerk: You said Grand Am?
Me: (Getting frustrated) No, TRANS AM.
Clerk: Oh, is that a Firebird?
Me: That's what I said a minute ago.

Them- "HAHAHAHA YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT YOUR OWN CAR!!!!LOL"
I worked at a parts store for about two years while I was in high school many many years ago, part of my interview for that job was a written test to see the level of my automotive repair knowledge. From what I have gathered most stores don't do that anymore, I guess most parts stores these days don't care whether or not you know what your selling.
Them: You need spark plugs, wires, distributor, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, trans fluid and filter, wiper blades, coolant change, and an engine diagnostic test.
Me: Really???
Them: Yah your car is misfiring bad and running really rough, You are probably just used to it.
Me: OH...
Them: It costs so much because the distributor is back under the cowl by the firewall. (I drive an LT1 car, what a douche. I shoulda asked him to show me.)
Me: Could you put my tires on so I can leave.
Them: so you dont want the repairs
Me: I'll do them my self.
Last time a take my car there. Seriously people are dumb.

They are telling me I need a new set of front brake pads and recommend that I change the rotors. I laugh and tell the guy that those are new. he puts me on hold and comes back on saying that they need to be replaced. I tell him that I physically just got done putting new pads and rotors on earlier that morning.
He tells me that I probably need to replace the calipers then because they must be sticking. I told him he and his tech didn't know what they were talking about. I've been working on cars, Camaros especially, for 15 years and that the calipers were fine. He said his master tech had over 20 yrs experience and does know what he is talking about.
I told them not to touch the car, that I would go and pick it up. I never took a car back there nor did I have any problems with my brakes.
That would be like going in there and saying "I have a Chevrolet SS".
p.s. brynnda you think its bad your trans am being mistaken for a camaro......
my gto gets mistaken for a cavalier all the time, now that hurts ..........
