Default Whats it feel like when your tranny goes out on you?

I was driving home 15 minutes ago, and all of a sudden on the freeway, i give it some gas and I cant pass any cars, and my engines just reving...what gives?

It's an A4 with 69K on it.

1st and 2nd are good, but i cant do anything in D or OD.

Is it possible for just the one gear to go out (3rd)? How much of a pain is it to fix, and whats it gonna cost me?? I'm gonna meed someone locally to fix it...

**** me!! Just my luck!

Yeah it sounds like you burned your 3-4 clutch pack, Your going to have to take the whole tranny apart. You might as well do some upgrades while you are there.

Mike @toy shop is goooood!!!!! My bro had him built him a th400 with a rmvb and a t.b and a 4500stall about 6 years ago and it still runs and he has beat it up and it still acts like the way he got it!. He sold it to him with the t/c for 1100buck! But he sponsered him I called and a 4l60e was gonna cost me 2500bucks that lasts about 550hp and without a t.c.. So I just ended up going with performabuilt.

I'd get it totally rebuilt, but it may be something as simple as the solenoid going out. I had one die 3 times on my A4 2000 TA, but that tranny also died 4 times to boot. Rossler makes an excellent tranny....

If it was the tc it would slip even more on 1-2, He said it only slips on 3-4 it sounds like the clutch packs are toast.

Those clutch packs are made of toilet paper. They are so weak its not even funny. If 3-4 are both gone its time for a rebuild. I wouldn't drive it until it gets fixed or you will ruin other things with all the clutch pack material in there.

If its just clutch packs you can always do your own rebuild for about $300 worth of parts. If you're looking at 2k for a rebuild do yourself a favor and get a built unit from one of the sponsors here for that price.
