Need Help! Cats Needed!
I got pulled over for a modified exhaust here in Sherman Oaks, CA. Anyone know anywhere where I can buy some cats and exhaust manifold here in the valley for cheap?
Or anyone know a cheap muffler shop around here thats good and cheap?
All help is greatly appreciated!

I think you have to take the car to a dmv check station or something like that. When I got a modified exhaust ticket it said it couldn't get a write off by an officer.I called the number on the ticket and they told me when I got it fixed I had to go to a state ref,so I said f-that and just paid $167.00 for the ticket.

So I got them all signed off but the exaust they said wasn't a fix it ticket so i had to pay the hundred something for the fine and just kept my exaust. Now 4 years later i still have the same exhaust lol but i keep my mouth shut when i get pulled over

so if get busted for running LTs with no cats they don't force you to go to a state ref? You can just pay the 170.00 and I can keep my LTs on? that's good news now I can get rid of all the stock exhaust **** taking up space in my garage....

Pay the fine. I just put CATS on because mine was too loud and it was about $150 for the cats and $80 to have them welded on... I'm sure the ticket would be less.
If you insist though, I got the cats here:

and the work was done in Vany Nuys by Jose at Bodywerks...

Well no, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you're talking about 2 different types of tickets now. You're sent to the state ref when you get caught in a smog inspection checkpoint. On any other given day, you'd be cited for loud/modified exhaust (fix it ticket), those you can get away with paying the fines, so don't go throwing your cats and stock manifolds away just yet James.

I'm not 100% on that. I wouldn't imagine any officer being able to send you to the state ref, police officers aren't trained for proper inspections, that is why they usually ask you if you removed the cats or have swapped the exhaust.
There are 2 types of smog inspection stations, the ones that WE go to, and the test only stations. It'll specify on your renewal what type you need.
I don't believe that the boxes on the sides of the freeways are part of the checkpoints. I once heard that they are solely for census purposes to determine how much smog is still being put into the atmosphere.
