Well I got A trip to the CA Ref!..
I was on my way home from work when I was on Tully heading east...Just as I passed over White road and about 1/2 mile on the right side there were two cops using the gun and waving people over to the side...I was doin 46 in a 35...Anyway, to make a long story short, the cop asked if I could pop the hood
...I did, and he asked if my headers were carb legal?..I said ya, but the carb number is on the underside of the header so you cannot see it unless you get under the car...He then proceeded to ask if I had any cats?..Of course, I said yes...
He didn't give me a speeding ticket, but gave me a fix it ticket for no front plate, and also a trip to the state ref for my headers, and exhaust...Looks like I am going to have to put everything back to stock...Any other options out there?..

i thought you were talking about Modesto. and that sucks dude! i've thus far squeaked by (knock on wood). but so cal is a lot more leaniant than nor cal...unless you live in Irvine cant you just tig weld a little metal plate on one of the primaries off to the side where you can barely reach it with your hand, then spray some high temp ceramic paint on there? sure its carb legal - there's the tag.
EDIT: give us a link because I just searched in Ebay Motors and there are none.
I know how to get out of Ref tickets in CA, but I think you should just put your stock goodies back on. If you were turbo or something, I'd tell you my loophole I found for a fee.....but I keep it on the DL so it doesn't get played out 
This is the very reason I've been thinking about disabling my hood latch and making it electric (with a hidden button). I already have all the stuff to do it...
Then if they want to pop the hood they can pull the latch and it won't do ****. Most they can get me for is a fix it ticket but they couldn't send me to the ref if I say my **** is stock and they can't see it to prove otherwise...

Believe it or not, the fuzz can pop your hood LEGALLY without any reasonable suspicion at all. They are getting away with these "inspections" (NOT SEARCHES) because they are making sure your car is "safe" for highway use.

Won't work. They can send you to the ref for the same "reasonable suspicion" that they make you pop your hood with......AND give you a fix it ticket for your hood.

This happened right across the street from the old pleasant hills golf course...There were two cops on foot with the gun and were flagging people over...I thought about punching it and making a couple of turns since my house was a little around the corner, but there was to much traffic to contend with...Of course there was a break in slow traffic so I accelerated around them and the ****** was right there...
I was trying to read up the most I could and it seems that the ref pretty much knows this stuff pretty well...If the cats are relocated(not stock position) to a different position then its illegal...I either have to find a loop in the system to get around it, or but her back to stock...
The car has absolutely no smog stuff on it what so ever...Like I said before, he somewhat bought my story which seemed to save my ***...He even mentioned that the car was loud enough that it didn't seem like there were cats on there!..
This happened at 2:45 in the afternoon...Below is a pic of the location...Keep a good scan goin when your drivin...

I am a little worried about clearing the SES light since I removed the AIR system...Is EFI the only program that can delete the whole code?..I might have to fab up the AIR system and just reset the code right before I go to the REF...I dunno...This crap is giving me a headache...Haha...

I got the same ticket stupid ticket back in december here in so cal.. Which one did u get? modified smog device or modified exhaust? I got the smog one. Ill tell u from first hand experience those smog ref's dont f around.. They somewhat know their ****. put it this way i took everything off my car, put on all the smog/emmisions stuff back on went to see the ref and i passed everything except the visiual inspection because my car is a 2000 and the passenger side exhaust manifold i put on the car was off of a '99... And soely because of that i couldnt get my certificate. COMPLETE BS if u ask me but now i have to deal with that. when i got the ticket they had pics/video of my car/under hood shots, so the first thing the ref asked me was if i still had the LT's or the nitrous lol
look at it on the positive side atleast u didnt have the heads n cam in already
