Default What gear oils are you guys running

i am going to do my rear oil soon and i read in the gear section and i'm all confused

is running RP gear oil good? and how many qts does it take, 3?
the dealer recommends running gm gear oil with LSD additive?

if i run RP, will i need the additive?

i ask here cuz we here out in the west **cough** CALI**cough** are the best.

FYI i have a G80 - LIMITED SLIP TORSEN REAR DIFFERENTIAL btw

i have allways liked the rp gear oil and if you get the ones that say it has limited slip additive, then you wont have to get the additive seprate
and btw if you have a torson rear you dont need the additive anyways!!

if you have the auborn it must be changed sooner to keep the clutches fresh! and how the hell u fit 2.5 qts??? u sure your diff was level when you did this?? and the best way to do this is to remove the 10 bolts holding on the cover and you might as well clean the magnet that always collects metel! and you will also need a new gasket and some silicone to hold it in place too!

I'm using the OEM stuff w/ the additive. Expensive as hell but hey, the parts look brand new with NO metal flakes back there ... must be those 1337 2.2 sec. 60's...

lol, funny you ask, the place that did my exhaust also did some tranny work and such, so i asked while you had it up how much do change the oil, he said 40, so i gave him all my oil, he dumped the trans and the rear, i brought him 3 quarts of the max gear oil, i got back nothing, i asked him where the other quart was he said it damn there took the whole bottle, i said alright but im pretty sure you didnt do it right then, he remarked with i have been doing this since before youw were born yatta yatta, i just laughed and left, went home checked the level it was good, so if my extra bottle was ripped off then i guess i know where not to take my car ya know

Ya your bottle got ripped, and hes been doing it to people since before you were born. Cuz i have the 8.5" and all i could fit was 2, i put 3 in it, and 1 entire quart went down the drain. i wasted like $10 right there.
