Default SS wheels on LT1

anyone here had trouble putting on SS wheels on the rear of an LT1?

tried it today and the wheels would not go in all the way in the rear, had to work the lug nuts slowly to back the wheel to the right rear rotor. The left rear just did not want to go in, broke 2 wheel studs and stripped two lug nuts, on putting on and the other taking off. One is still stuck, lost daylight, so I'll tackle it tomorrow after work (yes I put a jack stand on the frame so that the right rear does not rest on the wheel overnight).

I have an old set of rotors with the wheel studs, was thinking of re-using but since they are not expensive, I'll just replace them with new ones.

anyone here run into this trouble before?

Same here, I actually put a set on a 6 banger not too long ago. I grinded around the hole on the rim a bit.

you have to grind the center of the rim a little to fit over the hub. if it doesnt fit flat up against the hub DONT DRIVE IT!!

I believe you have to enlarge the opening of the wheel. The hubs on LT1's are larger.

the rear right is flat against the rotor, its the left side that's a problem. I have a dremel to grind the hub just enough to get the wheels on. Hell no, I won't drive if the wheel is not flat against the hub, it will wobble and something will break and I'll spill my drink!!

I also have a V6 firebird and tried the wheels on it, they fit fine. Its just the rear hubs on my LT1 that they don't as they should.

I'll grind the hub but not the wheel, I plan to upgrade the brakes to LS1 front and rear breaks. I already have the fronts, just need the rears. Anyone here have a set for sale?

there is a little lip or "burr" in the ID of the hub hole. you have to shave that off in order for it to work. it isnt a big deal a little file should do it. i had to use one on mine.

Not a big deal. Break it and replace it. I had one repleced and the guy told me that GM bolts use soft metal.
