Default Headers???

I've heard from a couple of people that if i install headers in CA, i will not pass smog... Is that true? because i really looked forward to installing some.

How about a mild camshaft?

shorties you will. long tubes you will move cats then you're not passing. but some people manage to pass . better be a mild cam or a medium with good *** tuning.

any header that moves the cat is illegal so shotries are the only legal way, and the biggest cam you want is a 224 which should gain you about 35-40 horsepower with a good tune.

Just find someone in SoCal that "won't notice" your LT's and you'll be good. Might cost some $$ though.

shorties are a waste of time and money

Run a set of LT's with a catted Y and it should pass the smog part just not the visual...
Try to find a smog shop owner thats clueless and just crams the smog sensor in the tail pipe... and it should pass

Yea most shorties come with a CARB number. But they suck! Not worth the money. If you find some dumb *** place that doesnt have a lift and run Lt's with a catted Y and you should pass. But not with a cam too, Sorry, one or the other...

then again smog is only every 2 years! Smog the car and then go crazy for 2 yrs. Then do what you can to make it pass again...lol...or register out of state, which is even better!

i have a set of mac mid lengths and mac catted y. the header has no carb number and i have a custom 220/230 cam. i just smogged no more than a month ago. i went to a test only center, i did have all the smog equipment on there such as egr and air. i just told him i bought the car from a dealer and they smogged it before i bought it.so he disregarded the carb number, and i passed with a lot of area left over.

Dude, my friend bought his 01 formula from a local chevy dealership and it came with hooker longtubes. He thought that it was normal for these cars to come with longtubes and never thought anything of it.... well, until i told him that its illegal and wont pass visual! lol. He took it to a few places and finally found someone who didnt really know what they were looking at and he ended up passing. But im sure if he wanted to, he could have made the dealership pay for it or possibly buy it back. Not sure what the law says on that

Go long tubes. I had bought a set of brand new edelbrock ceramic coated headers when I didn't know any better. I sold them at a small loss and bought some American Racing Long Tubes with their Y Pipe instead. I'm not worried about smog. Somebody will pass it.

90% of shops are lazy and don't do the visual. If they start asking questions tell them you left the oven on and BOOK IT!!! They can't do **** and you dont pay till the end...
