Factory HID's have a "cut-off" that blocks the light from blinding oncoming traffic... aftermarket ones typically don't. Therefore they are illegal.

Many people fabricate their own from BMW HID's... that way they keep em legal and they outperform most others

they are illegal, because cars that come with them from the factory have certain provisions built into the units to the control the pattern of light going out from the front of the car, therefore not blinding people. versus cars with factory light housings and hid's retrofited into them dont have these kind of provisions, therefore making them illegal.

they are only illegal if u have a differant color.
