Default How bad is this???

I had my 97 SS smog tested yesterday and unfortunately I failed.

_______%CO2___%O2________HC (PPM)_______CO (%)_______NO (PPM)
Test___MEAS___MEAS___MAX___MEAS___MAX___MEAS___MAX ___MEAS
15mph__13.2____1.0_____51_____210____0.48___1.07__ __419____1034___FAIL
25mph__13.7____0.5_____35______68____0.46___0.73__ __706_____689___FAIL

How bad is this? Will new cats help? (assuming they are bad). New o2's? (still have factory ones on there). Car has ~150K on the clock.

hey check this out jason, http://www.wallpaperama.com/forums/h...pass-t528.html

"10. Oil leaks around the engine, an oil leak means that you are losing oil pressure. The PVC valve is also responsible to recycling these fumes, and if you have a leak, then your emssions system may not be working right."

maybe the leak caused it?

that looks like your car is dumping an assload of fuel into the cyclinders and possibly that your cats are also bad,

first seafoam the shiot out your car, especially if you have never done it before,
then pull your spark plugs check them, replace if needed
then check the egr valve, could be causing the NO to be soo high (may get cleaned and unstuck with the seafoam, might not)
next I would replace those o2 sensors,
next check cats and replace

On a side note if you were to choose a car to possiby fill a garage with lethal gasses this would be it

just seafoam it and then get new o2 sensors. I bet you will pick up another 3mpg or so also with the new sensors. Also make sure your cats are really hot before the test.

I have seafoamed my car before, but I can do it again.
I recently replaced the egr valve with a used one that I cleaned.
The o2's have been on my to-do list for a while.
One cat is original, one cat is new, but the new one is the one that scrapes.

Just took my girls Formula to get checked and it passed with flying colors lol... time to pay the registration. My Camaro when I had to do it last year cost me a bit to have smogged

I'd do O2s. You're going too rich AND too lean during closed loop.

Plugs/wires wouldn't kill ya if they're original, too. (well doing the wires may kill ya)

How do you go too rich and too lean?

Plugs, wires, coil, & opti are fairly new. o2's and bank 1 cat are original though.

During closed loop the engine alternates between running slightly lean and slightly rich to fuel the different beds of the cat. If you can hook up a scope to the O2 sensor wires, the voltage should bounce between somewhere around .2v and .8v. High HC and CO levels are present when you're richer, High NOx levels are present when you're leaner than 14.7:1.

Cool, so o2's should help out a bit.
